[Solved] 2007 VW Check engine light not working

Hi there,

I have a second hand VW 2007, 1.4 TSI and the check engine light doesn't work. It doesn't even turn on when introducing the key and switching to "on" position, when all the console lights are lighted for a few seconds.

What could be the root cause? Could it be that the previous owner tuned the ECU to turn off the check-engine light permanently? Can it be a cable from the computer?

When introducing OBD reader I have 3 code errors that should turn on the check-engine light!

Thanks,

AC

Just for your information, I removed the dashboard and took it to a shop thinking he needed to replace a blown LED.

Someone (I think that it was the car dealership that sold the car to the previous owner) had totally removed the LED of the check engine light. The fix was 60€, but the cost it has caused for me has been tremendous.

Yes, an expensive mistake to make, not checking if the check engine light is on when the keys are introduced into the car before turning it on.

and I thought I'd never see a VW without an illuminated CEL

C'Mon Man!

It all depends how you fix it

The bulb or LED might have just gone bad.

Most likely it was disconnected by someone. When did you buy the car? Do you know the previous owner?

Obviously, there is a short on that circuit.  Time to start tracing it to find the problem.

First time I'd see a Led with such a low power go bad. Maybe the LED was removed from the light dashboard "undoing" the welding holding the LED?

Best,

Why don't get you rid of it?

I did know him.

I've seen that fuse 23 (Engine Management) keeps blowing right after replacing it, right when you put the keys on.

I suspect there's a short but I don't know if this short problem could potentially be related to not showing engine light.

Thanks!
