Howdy Scotty,

I am looking at a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4x4 that has been garage kept with minimal rust. Engine has 88,000 original miles original engine. The kicker is, this truck is a hybrid and the stator went out. Course the owner has claimed that parts are unavailable and reason why for selling it. Could I just swap out the transmission and still keep the original engine? Or would I have to swap both the engine and transmission together? He is asking for $3,000 but I believe I can talk him lower. Thanks for all your help and what you do to help us all!

Sincerely,

Malachi

A 19-year-old Chevrolet hybrid with a bad stator? (Who knows what else is wrong that you're not being told.) The guy should be paying you to haul the thing away.

The only real option is completely tearing out any hybrid componentry and installing a conventional GM engine from the same model year. Plus, a possible transmission if the conventional and hybrid automatics aren't the same - a highly expensive ordeal and way not worth it on an 18-year-old truck. You'd also need a dealer level scan tool to get it all to work.
