It WAS a great van. My favourite vehicle I ever owned. But even the last one they made will be 15 years old now.

Like everybody else is saying it could have been a great van back then but you are talking 16 17 year old Vans.

Also, how many friends do you have that are looking for a vehicle at the same time?

Kerem please let the moderators do the moderating. If you don't have anything valuable to add, then don't post. You don't need to comment on EVERY question.

its just this 1 friend looking for a 1st car

I see got it!

We owned one when I was a kid. It was pretty good but like mountain man said they are all pretty old at this point.

Definitely get it checked out by a mechanic before parting with any money.

Better to buy an older Sienna within your budget than buying a Chevy Astro Van.

well a 2004 Astro is cheaper then the sienna, witch he cant afford at all

How much is that 04 Astro? For example for one in good relative condition, I could get them for about the same price of 5k here in California, just the Sienna with a little more miles. What is the budget?

his budget is 5k

Your a lucky man Scotty answered this in his latest video!

The Astro and Safari were good solid vans. They were basically the GM versions of the Aerostar.

that's insulting to Astrofaris

Really? I know that the Windstar and Freestar were pretty bad but I thought that the Aerostar was half decent. When I said that the Astro and Safari were similar to the Aerostar what I was referring to was the fact that all three were RWD with optional AWD, two different length wheelbases, and body on frame construction.

well that parts is true. But at least the Astrofari doesn't look like a dustbuster on wheels. It's so ugly.

The early GM minivans such as the Lumina APV, Trans Sport, and Silhouette looked more like a dustbuster than the Aerostar. Plus, just because a car looks bad doesn't necessarily mean that it is a bad car.

no, but I'd rather have a good car that also looks good. Technically the Aerostar was hybrid chassis. Unibody with integrated frame rails. Astro had a separate sub-frame. Aerostar was discontinued in '97 whereas Astro was popular until 2003 (and still is)

Why won’t this thread die?

I dunno . People can't resist replying to it.

dude I know the Fiat 500 is a bad car I laugh at one when I see it on the road, I'm just here for the truth about quality of cars, witch are good and witch are not and that's it so don't get mad if I post about a Car that's a Clunker, because I'm posting about it to see if its a Clunker

Well you are lucky man almost all of your questions have been answered by Scotty and over 11 answers on this question alone.

yep, and I'm very grateful

Scotty I see that the Chevy Uplander Van is a pile of junk, is the older line of Chevy Astro Vans better or worse?

my friend needs a reliable minivan that doesn't cost 5k and up like a Used Sienna

The Astro is way better than the Uplander.

thank you, thats all i wanted to know 🙂

Nothing 16 years old will be reliable. We keep telling you this over and over.

Please stop with the "friend" lies.

its not a lie there is a legit friend wanting a good reliable car and for it to be BIG if possible and yes I know no 15-16 year old car isn't gonna be reliable but different cars have different costs to maintain them, and technically he could afford a 1998-2003 Toyota Sienna but from what you just said those are too old to be good vans anymore but he will just go with an old 2001 Camry if he has too

98 to 03 can still be good....

Hey, you asked something similar already:

https://carkiller.com/scottykilmer/qa/chevy-astro/#post-26664

Indeed. And this is the last duplicate post he will ever make or else he is gone for good.

Darn it, i forgot about that sense its soo old, but ok moving on

@1980scarlover
It seems you also forgot you had decided for a Toyota Sienna
https://carkiller.com/scottykilmer/qa/friends-dodge-caravan/

i did but my friend wants somthing diffrent

Why don't your friends ask their questions on their own?

IDK but anyway, moving on

ok moving on

let me guess ... in your next post, your friend wants to know about a '81 Corsica 😆
or... you're going to ask about the Caravan again, because you already forgot.

dont know what a Corsica is but ik i asked about the minivan, however my next post is probably gonna have something to do with a good beater car

ahh yes a "good beater". It'll be right next to the reliable Fiat.

Before your friend tells you too ask us whether is a good car or not, would they like a nice Astra?

@g-t can confirm that Vauxhauls are very cool cars!

@kerem the one on your picture is OPEL Astra. Vauxhall is British subsidiary of Opel and sell Opel's cars branded as Vauxhall in UK.
Yeah, it looks nice. That generation was one of candidates to have when I was looking for another car. Interesting fact is they do not have temperature gauge on dash.

80s car.lover... the corsica was a chevy made in the 80s... It was like a caviler

whelp, now you've done it. There's going to be a new topic and a video about the Corsica.

I log on and I see a question about a Nissan Pathinder by 80scarlover I am really shocked at the amount of flexability he has with cars Yaris vs Sienna vs Cavalier vs Buick vs Camry vs 4X4 Nissan. Wow. That is some serious hope to learn about every single car seperately;) Good luck with your answers buddy!

yeah I wonder if he's gone out of the house to look at a single car yet.

good question 😂. I guess we'll see. First he needs to ask about his friends' cars and then he could decide to ask us about a nice beater 124 Spider.

I wonder what Scotty would think if he read the comments of questions...

frighteningly accurate

well Kerem, I'm not gonna be able to buy a car for another year and 4 months but in the mean time I want to see what all my options are for decent transportation, but the Nissan Pathfinder Caught my eye sense we almost bought a house with one on our land and so it almost became our car, and theres one in the parking lot of where we live so I was wondering if they were decent or not and it looks like the 1998-2004 models were, so that may be my 1st car, who knows, it's a toss up between the corolla, the Sienna, and the pathfinder, and maybe the 2002 Suburban

Oh I see you still have a year well good then I see you are researching every car (just like I would do). Your choises are all pretty decent cars but somewhat old, but I guess that is what you get for 2 grand.

yep, ,and I heard the Ford Aerostar Van's were really reliable, is this true or not?

Yo, I heard Ford Model T's were really reliable back in the day.

@1980scarlover
I suggest you start research cars that are reliable now, regardless you like them or not

Aerostar? Buddy that would fall apart as a daily driver because of how old it is. If would recommend you daily use your feet or a bus if that is the level we are at right now. If you want a van, get a Sienna. If you want a car, get a Camry. This thread isn't dying so it isn't my job but just a little recommendation, maybe you should start a nice fresh topic that is a different topic from 20 year old death traps.

well I knew that yes they were old but I meant reliable as a weekend camper type van

and mountan man even back in the day the model T had constant engine problems

I heard that horse-drawn carriage is really reliable. Just try not to step in the exhaust.

dude if you don't like my questions then just don't answer them

aww. I love your questions. They're hilarious.

Thanks, I think, anyway, ik a 30 year old car is not gonna be reliable got that but back in the day when it was mmm 10 years old, was the Aerostar reliable then or as bad as a Chevy Uplander?

Well it depends. If you are 90 years old and use it once a week then it could have been excellently reliable.

ahh, ok so they were well built vans, but Toyota sienna if you want something modern, ok

That is not what I meant read carefully but the point we are ALL trying to make is: Get a Sienna. For example you are considering Ford and Mazda miniavns from 1997 1998 etc. but for your pricepoint you could get a Sienna from lets say 1998 or 2001 with a lot more life left in it.

Again what is your budget? We can help you more if we know your budget

well my friend's is $5k but anyway he likes this 2001 sienna for 2k

it has 180k miles, and it's had EIGHT previous owners. Any car that gets passed around that much is not a keeper. Is your "friend" also buying a car a few years from now?

oh no my friend is 18 he's actually in the market right now
