Which safe reliable car should I buy?

Dear Scotty,

I am sure you do not remember me, but once you fixed my old Isuzu Amigo so beautifully (you added a side button for a horn) that we ended up using that car for another 10 years.

In the past 8 years I was driving 2004 Toyota Camry XLE and I absolutely loved that car. Unfortunately in the past week a deer decided to comit a suicide in front of Toyota going 70 on a freeway, thus resulting in Toyota needing a serious facelift.  This prompted me to shop for a reliable car in which a 9 year old child will be safe. Initially, I was focused on Camry 2018-2021, but I was advised that Highlander or Subaru Forester might be a better more safe option. I was wondering which car (and which year) in your opinion is very safe and reliable? Aslo, what do you think about all the new safety features (e.g., blinking lights that warn about cars in a blind spot, Toyota Camry safety sense system, pre-collision system, etc.). Are they really worth the hype?

Thank you very much!

Test drive them all & see what you actually like. The Camry will be the one returning the best gas mileage.

You may as well throw in the RAV4 & CR-V into the mix, too.

All the best!

I own a 2021 Camry SE, myself and I think Safety Sense 2.5+ is totally worth it and it works precisely. Being in a big vehicle is safer is a myth. Physically, when two vehicles collide, you absorb the combined force and weights of both vehicles. SUVs are at higher risk of rollover, but they offer a better view. The choice between a SUV and a sedan is a personal reference based on your family situation.

yes impact force is combined, but the smaller car loses.
If a train hit a Smart car, it would be like juicy bug splatting on your windshield. The train will keep going at the same speed and won't even notice anything happened.
