Hello, I have a 2012 Toyota Sienna with 120,000 miles. The cigarette lighter wasn't working so I checked the fuse and it was blown. Replaced the fuse but the outlet still wont work. I suppose it could be a bad outlet that needs replaced but not sure as it could be something bigger. Any ideas?
Make sure there aren't coins, other garbage, or corrosion stuck in the socket.
First of all, make sure that the ignition is in the ON position. The cigarette lighter likely won't have any power coming to it if the ignition is off. Some cars have constant power supply even with the ignition off - if this is the case with your car, the go directly to the next step.
Secondly, use a multimeter and check for continuity and voltage between the battery and the cig lighter fuse, and between the fuse and the cig lighter. If the wires are chafed or broken, the resistance would be high, or even show infinity (indicated by a 1 on the multimeter). That way, you can identify the location of the problem.
