Hi, Skotty. Thank you for being available to share your knowledge. I have a 1955 Ford f100 with a rebuilt 1957 292 y-block, converted to 12 volt over 20 years ago. She’s been parked over 6 years (ran fine when parked, time is the only thing that has been added.) I put in a new battery, she cranks over just fine, but will not spark. I filed the points, put on a new coil, condenser, ballast resister, and starter relay; but I am getting no juice to the coil. I ran a jump wire from the hot side of the battery to the hot side of the coil, cranked it over to check for spark, and got nothing, not even a dull spark. I am thinking of replacing the horn relay so everything is new. The wiring harness was also replaced 20 years ago. What could be wrong between the key and the coil? Or, do you have any suggestions? Thank you, Cal37
If you hot-wired the coil that takes the ignition switch and wiring harness out of the equation. Is the distributor cam and rotor turning when the engine cranks? Points opening and closing? You can check operation of the points with a test light:
