I have a 2000 mercury grand marquis with around 70,000 miles that sat around for about 1 year. I recently bought it and noticed that whenever I make a u-turn, I hear a loud clunking/popping noise in the front drivers side. I'm not sure which part of the suspension this could be, so any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
Only u-turns, not normal right/left 90 degree turns? You're going to have to get it on jackstands or a lift to sort that out - could be several different things in the suspension and steering linkage - or a bad bearing. With the car up, you can pull and push the tire to see where there is movement that shouldn't be happening. Scotty does this in a number of videos.
If it happens when you accelerate & turn from a stop, it could be your CV axles. Check the cv boots for grease leaking if they’re ripped. If they are, you’ll need to replace the CV axle/s.
I don't think so because the noise is in the front, and the car is RWD, so im thinking possibly a lower control arm?
Yup you’re right, I was wrong about the CV axles. Load test the front end parts to see which one reproduces the noise.
