Hello I'm wanting to purchase a 2005 Nissan Quest..3.5 SE automatic 229k miles on it...interior..fluids everything looks good even drove great with no noises..no signs of leaks.new transmission..problem is when I attached my scanner I got a code P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) ...it is from a private owner as well with a rebuilt title...I've ran a carfax report I seen where it was declared a total loss but it also says minor damage...anyways I really like the van and the owner went down on the price but I'm very skeptical about the code..the owners are stating the 20 years old so it's nothing and the scanners don't work well on older cars the van has driven fine for them over the years but I don't know...what's your opinion..thanks in advance....

Pass. High miles and trouble codes.  You’re looking at min $5k to replace trans and cats

Three strikes, it's a 20-year-old Nissan with high miles, it has a salvage title, it's throwing a code that could cost thousands to fix, and the seller is obviously lying to you. (Wait, that's four strikes, worse yet.) However, if you happen to enjoy flushing lots of money down the toilet that thing would do nicely.
