Colorado sticks when put into drive

Scotty,

Got a 2007 Colorado auto i5 with 142k on the clock. Whenever I let it sit for a while, say 2 weeks or more, and then when I go to start it and put it in drive it’s like it sticks. Instead of rolling slowly in gear, it will just sit there as if in park until you give it a little gas and then you can feel a clunk as if it’s “unsticking” and then after that it is fine. After it “unsticks” it will roll under its own power when in drive and I can only get it to do it again after I don’t drive it for a couple weeks or so. Is this normal as the truck gets older or could something be getting ready to break?

thanks!

Has the transmission been serviced regularly over the last 17 years? Is the fluid level OK? What is the fluid's condition?

I got it with 116k miles and wasn’t sure if the fluid has been serviced before I got it so it hasn’t been changed, fluid was low when I got it so I had it topped off. As far as shifting it shifts fine when it’s supposed to and haven’t noticed any hard shifts
