2000 Honda Civic LX 99k miles. Does it matter which type of oil to use for the next oil change since I plan on using AT205? And do I use it before I add new oil or after or it doesn't matter?

Use the recommended oil in your owner's manual.

It doesn't matter then adding at205 before adding new oil or after, correct? Just so long it's fresh oil.

Correct. Because oil will recirculate inside the engine.

If possible, do not remove the heat shield. It is an older car and things break easily. Try not to move stuff as much as you can but if you don't have any options, go for it. And yes, definitely use brake cleaner on a cold engine.

Searched the forum and I got the general idea to use it with fresh oil. I don't have the bottle with me right now while at work. I just wasn't sure to use it after I drained the old oil, then add new oil filter and at 205, then new oil, OR drain old oil, add new oil + filter, then add at 205.

what's the difference?

It's like asking if you should add the strawberries or the bananas first into the blender.

I thought you were supposed to add ice, first?

@itwt everyone knows the 1st ingredient is rum

Rum?

never had a daiquiri?

I was thinking of a milkshake..

hey whatever suits your taste

But if you cook eggs and then toss cooking oil after putting in the eggs on a hot pan, the eggs will cook rapidly and stick on the pan before the oil could prevent that. But as yaser said, oil recirculates so in this case, it doesn't matter so long as it's fresh oil and filter.

hopefully you're not cooking anything in there

Had my mechanic change to full synthetic Castrol Edge High Mileage and added AT 205. Drove about 7 minutes highway and 10 minutes small street (on my lunch break) and when I parked, checked under the car for a few seconds and no oil leaks at this time!

Throat irritation still, but maybe I'll try the shop vacuum and dish soap method because I'm worried I'll spray the wrong parts if the car is on.

Get a can of brake cleaner. It is a good solvent for oil residues. Target the spots on the exhaust.

I'm realizing, I need to take the heat shield off first to clean the exhaust manifold. Is this correct? And then spray on a cold engine and scrub?

Had another mechanic look at the car. They said the active leaking from the rear main seal is probably causing the throat irritation. They also looked underneath and felt no leaks. I asked about rusty parts under the heat shield and they said it should still be fine because they don't hear any hissing. So it's just a matter of making this costly repair. They quoted me $400/500 and they were really nice. Didn't charge me for an inspection. The place is called Lee's Auto & Muffler for reference in Mission Hills.
