Hey Scotty is there a difference between 50/50 and Ethylene glycol reg coolant. Cause when I change the coolant out in my 1992 Mitsubishi Galant I used the regular. Will it cause harm overtime for not using 50/50

I think you're a bit confused. EG is antifreeze. 50/50 means 50% water + 50% antifreeze. That is correct concentration of EG in coolant.

Some coolants are sold premixed (50/50) and some are sold as concentrate (you have to mix with water yourself).

Your vehicle can overheat in warm weather if the antifreeze is too concentrated.

If you add the concentrated one (only EG), drain it and fill it with 50:50 premixed.

@yaser
seems like a waste. Why not drain half and fill the rest with water?

Maybe, but you never know how much exactly he has in the car and I would not personally do that since the coolants are relatively cheap.

@yaser
manuals usually state how much but it doesn't have to be exact. 60/40 works too. antifreeze testers are cheap.
my system takes 4 gallons which would cost me $80. I can buy a lot of beer for $80.

If I divide 80 bucks (for your case), by 7 years, it gives me less than 12 dollars a year and I don’t need to deal with any antifreeze adjustment inside the coolant system.

@yaser
it's an easy adjustment.

I'm too cheap to buy the 50/50 premix since it greatly inflates the cost of the coolant. Much less expensive to buy the full-strength stuff and mix it yourself with distilled water.

@chucktobias
me too. The premix is overpriced.

The price of convenience.
