Hello all,
Back again posting about my 06 Toyota Corolla, 97,500 miles, standard transmission. I was accelerating to get to highway speeds rather quickly the other day and I heard a whistling noise coming from the engine when I was around 4,000 - 5,000 range (was in 3rd gear at the time). This noise is not audible when I am driving in the 1,500 -3,000 range rpm. Is this just a vacuum leak that only shows up at high rpm? How does one find a leak like this when it only happens at high rpm?
Here is a list of all the work that's been done recently (past year).
1. Replaced valve cover gasket
2. Replaced automatic chain tensioner
3. Replaced intake manifold gasket
4. Smoke test in air intake yielded no results (no major leaks seen)
Make the car do the noise again and check whether the noise depend on the gear you're in.
I just did, its dependent on the RPM. I can hear it in 2nd and in 3rd, but I never get that high in rpm in 4th and 5th.
Sometimes it's a simple as they worn out PCV valve. But the pinpoint the sound. Try my video finding the source of car noises. Scotty
