Hey Scotty, I'm in the market of buying a smaller vehicle. I've been looking at mostly Corollas and I stumbled upon this 2017 Toyota Corolla iM. Is it a good car to buy?
I saw your older video about the new Corolla Hatchbacks that had CVT problems, is this case the same with this vehicle?
Also does Toyota put that CVT with a "first gear" in all of their cars after they came out with them or just specific ones?
Love your bids and thanks for your help!
the launch gear is only on 2.0L engines and K120 transmissions.
The hybrids and 1.8L never got a launch gear.
If I'm not mistakes the IM designation means "Intelligent manual" and that means that's a standard transmission with automatic rev-matching.
the 2017 model is before the 2018 refresh, on those I'd just get the 4 speed automatic as that transmission is invincible and the best they probably put on the corolla.
Found a press release from Feb. 2018 where Toyota announced the cvt with the launch gear (K120 direct shift) and mated to their 2.0L engine. Seen lot's of complaints in the forums with this gen.
yep,
never get a 1.8L corolla with the CVT.
in Europe they've been trying for a decade to make the K-series CVTs work but they ended up costing more in repairs then they would on Nissans.
