Guess what the cost is to replace the battery pack of the EV pickup truck the Ford F-150 Lightning out of warranty?
- The standard range battery’s cost is $28,556
- The extended range battery’s cost is $35,960
I almost fell out of my chair when I saw those figures. Holy, moly! I think I will just stick to ICE.

The “starting” price for a truck using the standard battery is $51,974 whereas for one with the extended range battery is $80,974.
I haven’t done the math. But I conjecture I can probably get a ton of mileage with the same amount of money from a used truck, including gas and maintenance, than an EV including the battery change.

well ...
Here in Canada, depending how far you drive (and a lot of people have to commute a long ways. Nobody can afford to live in the city where the work is any more), you could easily spend $10k or more on gasoline per year with a gas guzzling truck. Electricity is dirt cheap here.

New combustion engine trucks easily go for over $100k
But I have other issues with electric trucks. The whole idea is just silly and the range is a joke.

.
Which trucks? At least in the US, one can get full size trucks for much less than that.
I can't remember the options but a coworker ordered a domestic, must have been 1 ton and the bill was over 100k CAD.
A 3/4 ton kittted out as a work vehicle is about 80k (if you can find one!)
This is probably why junk yards will soon fill up with discarded EVs.
we'll see. If you can drop in a new battery and keep the truck going ... maybe not. There's no piston rings, crankshafts, or transmissions to wear out.
Maybe somebody will make a kit to retrofit EV trucke to ICE….they look like nice trucks
The real question is how far these batteries can last before replacement. I can 100% guarantee that these trucks will have no resale value.
why not?
