Hello! Long time fan of Scotty's Channel!

I was just given a 2005 Lexus ES330 with 185k miles on it by my brother. The car is in really good shape but did sit for about year and a half. They were going to get rid of it and I asked them for it! I've always been a fan of Lexus and i know how much scotty raves about them  I had the fluids changed and everything seems fine car runs great, however today the the VSC, Track Off and Check Engine lights all suddenly came on and are staying on. It doesn't seem to be effecting the car's performance in any way. I'm not sure what happened or how to fix it. Any help would be most appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Now that you own a 17 year old car it's time to buy a scanner and you don't need an expensive one.

Look here: https://carkiller.com/scottykilmer/postid/226846/

Something like the CGSULIT SC301 ($50) would be ideal for you and you can go even cheaper than that if you have to.

Whenever the PCM sets a trouble code related to fuel management or a component involved in measuring speed or engine rpms it will deactivate other systems like stability control and traction control (that's why those lights are lit up on your dash).

So for now, go to the auto parts store and have them hook up their scanner to see what trouble code(s) you have. It may be an obvious fix. On the other hand, you may have to do a little diagnosing/troubleshooting and you'll need a scanner for that.

Understood, thanks for the advice. I will definitely look into a scan tool.

I disconnected the Negative terminal on the battery for 10 minutes and reconnected and that reset and cleared the lights. But I'd like to know what's going on regardless.

Ill be sure to run the scan tool anyway to see what other errors may be lurking under the hood.

Thanks again!
