CRC Intake Cleaner

Hey Scotty, on my 1997 Nissan Pathfinder with 180,000 miles is it safe to use the CRC Intake GDI cleaner? It’s not a gdi engine though, I believe it’s PFI.

I used about 3/4 can through the brake booster last weekend, left it an hour, then did highway driving. I changed the oil after. It seems to idle a lot smoother and may have fixed the intermittent warm start stumble/choking.

I did initially get a random cylinder misfire code that I cleared out before driving. Everything is fine since.

Do you recommend another treatment? and is it necessary to change oil afterward? Or spark plugs?

Also, can I run some through the line that feeds the IACV to clean that out?

Thanks

You did good I believe. the oil (and filter) change would only have been necessary if it was due anyways (every 3 to 5k miles, closer to 3 if you encounter dirt roads every so often).

your engine probably suffers from carbon buildup on the valves of the furthest cylinder (from the air intake) which is expected at this age and mileage.

I believe scotty has a video on a proper "carbon cleaning" procedure you could perform if the stumble/choking comes back again.

cheers,

thanks!

I forgot the spark plugs could actually cause similar symptoms if the spark is affected. Next time you could check them for carbon buildup and brush them with a wire brush if they are covered with gunk.
regular spark plugs should be scheduled to be replaced every ~40K miles (google "worn spark plugs" to compare with if you don't know how long they've been in there).

I attached a picture of cylinder 1 spark plug. How does that look? I know I changed them. About 17k ago. Ngk iridium

oh sorry for the time delay,

that Sparkplug looks fine. Carbon sludge is very evident so cylinder 1 seams clean. i believe you can keep using these for another 20K Miles
