Hi Scotty,

Big fan and welcome to Tennessee.

I recently purchased a 1989 Ford F-150 XLT Lariat 4.9L manual trans from an elderly couple. It currently has 35,000 miles on it.

The couple I bought it from didn't drive it much and it has sat for extended periods of time.

I've changed the oil and coolant.  It seems to be running fine.  It has no issues starting, running or shifting.

Question:

With the age of the vehicle and that it has sat for extended periods of time, is there anything I should be on the lookout for with this particular model?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Jack from Tennessee

'89 with 35,000 miles...great find, not even broke in !

Everything about the brakes...from changing the fluid (it does go bad), all the wheel end parts...cylinders, springs, lining, etc. Parking brake cable movement.

Thanks for the advice.  I'll put that on the list of things to do. I'm going to put some new tires on it as the old ones are rough looking.

Mechanically it seems pretty solid. Body has some dings here and there but it's an old truck.
