Hi Scotty, i recently had my 2009 toyota yaris, autotrans with 200000 miles on it in for oil change and filter. at that time they did a once over of the car and let me know that the left axle boot was torn and leaking grease. I had this repair done in october of 2019 by the same dealership. they said they would look into it and call me back. no call back and they do not return my calls. is it possible for this to happen within a year and one half? thank you for your attention.
Possible, but very, very unlikely. They usually tear after several years because the rubber starts drying out and loses flexibility. One could tear due to an object from the roadway or if you have an oil leak where the oil drips onto the boot, although, in the latter case, it should still last longer than this. Are you, or a friend, able the verify the tear? If it is torn, I would wait until it starts clicking to replace it... and I would strongly recommend not using the dealership.
This can happen with crappy aftermarket parts. I once bought Mevotech ball joints, the rubber boot cracked after one year.
Or, they deliberately tore it, hoping to entice you into buying another car from them.
Or they said that it was torn when it wasn't.
How many miles from then until now?
