Our 2012 Kia Sedona has about 143,000 miles. A couple of weeks ago, I had AAA replace the battery. The tech said the alternator was good. After driving it a couple of weekends ago, the open door light came on. I checked all the doors, and they were closed. The light was still on. Since then, I hadn't driven it. I went to start it today, and it was dead. No sound, no click, nothing. I'm going to have AAA come out tomorrow to charge the battery.
By the way, we haven't been to able to open the rear door for at least a year. The handle of one of the side sliding doors is about to fall off.
- Is there an independent Kia repair shop that you know of in our area (90805)? I don't want to take it to the dealership any more. They charged us $800 to replace the transmission shifter.
- If not, is it time to unload this vehicle (My wife thinks we should)?
Are you saying the interior lights were on? That could certainly drain the battery if left that way for a while. If you're talking about just a warning light on the dash it would take a lot longer unless some associated circuitry was causing a parasitic draw.
There are a few mechanic referrals in the FAQ, however I don't know if any are in your area. (I don't know what area that zip code is in and I'm too lazy to look it up.)
For a Kia 143K miles is pretty much at the last dregs of its service life, so if you're in a position to get rid of it that's probably not a bad idea.
I don't know how handy you are. You can find door handles cheap on ebay. They are real easy to change. As far as the interior lights the one that used to get me was the interior dome cargo lights in the rear . They had three positions. On all the time, On door open and Off. My daughter was always forgetting to turn them off and I wouldn't notice it was ON. Next day dead battery. If it's an electrical problem they generally cost a lot of money to fix.

As far as advice get your wife a new car. She deserves it. Jump start the Kia. Drive it to the dealers lot. Trade it in and let them deal with it.
It's a Kia. I rest my case
Yes.
