Car make & model: 2003 Lexus LS 430 RWD
Seems I pissed off my mechanic by buying brake pads and rotors on my own. Made like like a jack by asking "would you bring own food to restaurant". Well new tires put on front as per mechanic recommendation but ride quality sucks. a week later, checked tire pressure on front to find one side is 37 and other side is 32!!! yep - not a good sign. went to another mech to fix the brake pads and rotors and they pointed one side of front tire, the directional tire are put the wrong way!!! I live in CHICAGO. Is my mechanic trying to kill me or am I over thinking?
5psi isn't the end of the world.
I would get a refund for the tire job though. It probably won't kill you, but they failed at their job. It's such a basic thing that the guy must be an addict or something.
"would you bring own food to restaurant"
The guy is an idiot, and he's just making up stuff to make you feel bad. The car and parts are YOURS. You can take an animal to a butcher and have him process it right? You hire a mechanic for his skills and services. Not pushing a button on the computer to order parts. He's just mad about losing easy money, and I guess he doesn't want repeat business.
Please do not go to Pep Boys for any work on your car. You will regret it.
The only thing you should ever spend money on at Pep Boys is air freshener.
+1 @mmj
He’s miffed at you, but apart from not giving a guarantee on the parts you sourced yourself (and maybe a markup), there’s really not much else he should be mad about.
The psi difference is negligible as that’s normal for 1 tyre to be a few psi higher than the opposite side.
The malicious bit from this event is the wrong installation of directional tyres on the rim. That’s serious stuff and may result in loss of control in the wet/contaminated road conditions, since the tyre isn’t rotating the way it was designed to, to evacuate water/slush.

The work is either it's malice or incompetence, or both. This fellow should be your "former mechanic."
Although I no longer live in the metro Chicago area, I have had some very good and timely work done, at an independent shop, in the area in 2019 and 2021, during visits. Check Google Reviews.
Going to get this fixed in pep-boys tomorrow
When you get your brakes done at Pep-Boys 😆

FWIW, on parts a mechanics.
Some mechanics are cool with you bringing your own parts. Less work for them. They just can’t warranty the part.
Other mechanics won’t even do it if you bring your own parts. They don’t want to chance it.
And others will guilt trip you.
Not all mechanics are the same.
I’ve used all of the above types in the past . I much prefer the ones willing to work with me.
Greetings from warm [ it was 80 yesterday ] florida!
I moved here in 2006 from the Chicago area. 50th and Ashland Ave. and later in Bolingbrook. As you have to drive the wonderful Chicago expressway system to Elgin, perhaps you should look for a mechanic out that a way. I have found that the shops in the Burbs do better work. Find an independant shop rather than places like Pep Boys as the latter usually don't have real mechanics.
Good luck and have fun on 55,355, and 88!
Thanks for the input - I will write a full review and also take it up with the mechanic. Going to get this fixed in pep-boys tomorrow as from the videos I saw, this is not good at high speeds and I have to travel to travel back and forth for Elgin which >25 miles of highway with 70mph speed.
