Hello everyone, I have a straight piped 2014 Honda Civic LX with 132k miles on it. I have been getting this smell like burnt plastic. thats the best i got to describe it lol. but i realized it happens more frequently when i go at high speeds. i was told before that it might be my clutch but i dont feel like the smell it coming from under the hood. When i know it smells, i quickly go and open the hood and stick my head in there but nothing. so I recently asked 2 mechanics and they both said that it might be my catalac converter. and it makes sense because i smell it very strong when i open my driver door.

I was told by one of them to use Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner 12oz. He told me to wait until my gas is low then, then add 1 bttle right before i put gas and then fill it up. He recommended i do this 3 consistant times everytime i need gas. that should solve it.

should i go ahead and do it exactly lke that?

When catalytic converters smell it's a rotten egg smell. Wondering if you ran over a plastic bag and it stuck and melted on your cat. Had friends that's happened to and it last a long time. At 7 years old and 132k miles it wouldn't hurt use the Chevron cleaner and if it helps with the smell, even better.

not to be a grammar nazi but just to help you out when talking about the part with shops/ mechanics its "catalytic converter" (pronounced like cat-uh-lih-tic). sorry Im sure someone else will know more about the actual answer to your question than me though
