Do I need an i-eloop battery for my 2018 Mazda GT?

I have a 2018 Mazda GT and am looking to replace the battery.

I see there are two batteries for it:  i-ELOOP and ex i-ELOOP.

I can easily find the ex i-ELOOPbattery, but not the i-ELOOP battery. I think I can only get the i-ELOOP battery at the dealer and it's about $500.  I can get an Interstate ex -ELOOP at Costco for $99.

Can I replace my current battery (it's never been replaced), with an ex i-ELOOP battery?

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Yes.  It's just a 12 volt battery made to be used with the brake regenerative charging system.  Personally, that's what I thought the alternator was for but what do I know?

Do you know if there's any place to get an i-eloop battery beside the dealer?

Apparently this "regenerative braking system" still uses the alternator to charge.
It's just an over-engineered variable performance alternator that engages during deceleration...

IMO, It's not much more than a way of forcing owners into buying only OEM batteries...

(I don't think other batteries have capacitors in them or will live for long with the way Mazda's system works)

Any AGM battery from any supplier will do the job, AutoZone, O'Reilly, etc.

Thank you so much! This helps me a lot. Much appreciated.

Quick question, is an AGM batty the same thing as E-iLoop?...just that the Mazda dealer battery is called an E-iLoop, and any other battery that is not Mazda's brand is called an EX E-iLoop?
