Do I really need to change my transmission fluid?

I drive a 2009 automatic Toyota Corolla LE with 129,468mi. My tranny fluid is at the point where it still has some pink but is kinda dark. I went to a mechanic and they told me that I didnt need to because it doesnt need to be changed under normal driving conditions but pretty much everywhere I've looked at has told me otherwise. What should I do?

I would change it.

Thanks!

I would change it (and filter if there is one, some trannies just have a metal screen). However do not flush it. Do a drain and fill 3 times and it will replace about 90% of the old fluid, introducing the clean fluid gradually.

Yeah I've heard changing it is better. How often should you do the changes? I've heard every 200mi?

When I do those drain and fills I'll usually drive around for about 30 minutes between times. That should be sufficient to mix the new fluid in.

These mechanics telling you not to change it when it's safe to change it. Are showing  you, you should find another mechanic.

Oh I for sure will be. The reason I went with them is because they had really good reviews and were close to me. Luckily there are some other well reviewed mechanics close to me. Hopefully I'll never have to use them tho

Good, I just think it's crazy for them to tell you that. But, maybe they meant it just wasn't
needed yet..
