My daughter leased her first new car back in 2016. It is a 2016 Toyota RAV4 XLE with 37,000 miles. She liked it up until just after she bought the lease out. The car developed mold from a defective sunroof (Toyota replaced and insurance covered interior damage). A couple of months later, she brought it back to the body shop because of an odd smell she suspected was a residual issue from the water damage. The body shop found evidence (chewing, droppings, and a nest) of rodents taking up home in her car. The body shop informed us this is a fairly common issue with late model Toyotas because of the Soy based wiring insulation and materials.
My question to you: Is the car worth keeping given the fact it has "yummy" parts? Mechincally it has no issues, and body wise, a perfect body.
I had that problem on my Civic with squirrels.. to the tune of about $900 (harness). I fixed that problem once and for all by wrapping pliable modeling mesh around vulnerable wires and securing with tape. Got mesh from ebay... 1/16. 16”x 20”. About $10 shipped. Vendor was “morezmore”.
what was the problem with the sunroof?
well actually animals do eat those soy base ones it's a problem that they're now coming up upon especially wiring harness that have coatings made of that
