My and my husband want go get my son a new car for his birthday this Saturday. He has a 1998 Volkswagen Golf 1.9 TDI with 502,000 km..
At our local store we saw an Alfa Romeo Giulia, 2017, 2.2 JTD diesel, 110 kw, automatic transmission, 79 800 km.
If it checks good, should we buy it?
Diana
I know enough about them not to buy one.
Could you provide with a good tip on what to buy? Unfortunately, there are few Toyotas and Hondas in my area. Plus, my son doesn't like them. Should be manual/automatic, preferably diesel, 2017 or newer, 15 000 € or less
Most of the cars available to you are not sold here in the U.S. so I don't know much about them. (The Gulia is here, albeit not with diesel - on first arrival they were breaking down on test drives by the automotive press.) Our moderator @dan might have some ideas.

Not unless you want to see him bond with his car..

If he’s tired of his Golf, try to find a diesel Škoda.
Get him a newer Golf with TDI and manual transmission.
As far as looks, driving, and performance the Giulia is magnificent.
Also, the MultiJet II diesel powertrain has a positive reputation, especially considering it’s mated to ZF 8 speed (a good, reliable, conventional automatic)
I’m unsure about the specifics of the 2.2 diesels - but most other modern Alfa diesels have been solid.
The real concern is the reliability of the rest of the car and repair costs.
But they’re too rare to know if you’re not working on them.
It’s best to ask local mechanics who work actually on modern Alfa cars.
If you ask local mechanics, post your findings, I would love to know too.
