I had recently got a free 2011 Sentra and it had engine oil in the trunk. The quarts may have been from 2013 not sure. But one backyard mechanic said it never expires so I put in my engine almost two quarts of this stuff so far because I have a leak
It's not golden tho like I'm used to, I pulled dipstick and it's like a dark golden.
So my question is does sealed engine oil expire? It definitely was sealed.

Your mechanic is wrong as oil does 'get old'. Modern synthetic oils have additive packages that do break down over time. The Motor Oil Geek recently did a video on this very subject, I've started it at his conclusions: https://youtu.be/E1T4XFPgBeo?t=1356
Engine oil does expire, generally 2-5 years depending on how it is stored.

It's been in the ground for millions of years, what's a few years on a shelf? It's the additives may break down, depending on how long it's sat. The oxygen in the air will also eventually react with the oil, even a sealed carton, basically oxidizing it. That's really the only thing that could go "wrong" with it. That could lead to engine sludge, etc. If it's an emergency, use it. Oil is cheap enough to dispose of it at AutoZone and buy new oil.
