I have a 2017 toyota highlander limited and I was at service today and they said there was a hole in my muffler. I didn't notice any noise. They said my emission test was fine and that this was not an urgent repair.
The hole is on the front end of the muffler. It looks uniform in shape -- so not sure what would have caused this.
Do I need to patch this? Or was this part of the muffler? Anyone with a 2017 highlander can verify?

which engine?
that looks like a drain hole. You should probably leave it alone.
I can't tell from the photo what's going on but you don't patch mufflers when they develop holes, you replace them.
Who exactly is "at service" and "they?" I agree with @mmj, it looks like a low position drain hole to allow water from condensation to escape.

closer pic I took today... https://imgur.com/a/CjHs0L3
Seeing that close up it definitely looks like a drain hole. A rust hole would be irregular and jagged in shape and surrounded by rust flaking off.
@chucktobias - Agree, too uniform to be corrosion.
