Hi guys!
i’m about to have my oil changed. The mechanic(new contact) looks reliable, still, is there a way i can check after the maintenace that the oil was indeed changed?
toyota yaris 2010 ~125000 Kms.
i’m not confident enough to do it myself.
Thanks!
Check the oil color and smell. You can also put a mark on your oil filter before changing to make sure they change the filter as well.
It’s not hard to check, and that is actually a good idea with all the scams out there.
before you go, pull out your oil dipstick and wipe it off on a white paper towel. After they “change” it, wipe it off again on the same towel. Should be an obvious difference.
and I agree with Yaser to mark the filter too
Before you go pull the dipstick and note the level and color, will probably be dark in color. Jack up the front the oil filter is easy to see and access, note the type of filter that is currently on there. Then take a sharpie and put a mark on it someplace inconspicuous. Afterwards, pull the dipstick and the oil on it should be clean and clear, and then check the oil filter to see 1. if it's a different brand then you know it was changed. 2. If same brand look for the mark you made and should not be there. Or, if they have a window into the garage area, just watch them while they work on it........However; an oil change isn't that hard to DIY.

DIY oil change is best practices. Costs half as much, you can control what quality oil and filter you use, and you know it was done right. And it’s an easy task on most cars; maybe 20 minutes once you’ve done it a time or 2.
Yep, I know. Seems the OP isn't very mechanically inclined from his lack of confidence to do it him/her-self.
You can also ask for the old filter
