Hello everyone. I know this is probably a dumb question, but my car has tires that are pretty dry rotted. I was going to replace them, but I had an idea. I saw a guy doing this to lawn mower tires that had dry rotted tires (I realize that a car is not a lawn mower but this is just where I got the idea) and he just put a tube into the tubeless tire and it would hold air. Now my tires aren’t leaking from the rot yet, but I was thinking if I converted them to tubed tires it would prevent a blowout in the event the dry rot started giving way, and I could ride them until the tread wore down. It seems such a shame to trash these tires since the tread is basically new. It’s just an idea to save some cash and make them last a little longer. What do you all think? Thanks.
Just get fresh new tires. Why worry about these shredding apart at 70mph?
Forget it. You'll wind up killing yourself or someone else.
I've done it myself - on riding lawn mowers.
On a car not only are the tires likely to fly apart, even if they don't you'll have very little traction especially on wet roads because the rubber has hardened. It's an idea best confined to gardening equipment
