2002 Honda Odyssey V6 w/ 205,000 miles... drove it 300 miles to Laughlin, Nevada at night (AC on) with no issues but returning home during the day in 115 degree temps was different. Before leaving, the car sat for 20 minutes idling with AC on as we waited for the group to leave (the engine temp was at the normal level). We drove about 2 miles before reaching a 2 mile incline. Halfway through the incline, I noticed the engine temp rising and turned the AC off. As the temp moved back towards normal, a friend suggested picking up some water and ice in case we needed it so we did. We continued on for about 20 miles with no issues until we reached the dreaded 4-5 mile incline...  I turned the AC off hoping to keep it at normal operating temp. We made it to the top of the summit with no issues and went another mile before turning the AC back on. Minutes later I felt a slight hesitation as the engine and TCS lights came on but the car still ran smoothly. My buddy told me this sometimes happens in high elevations??? So we continued on making 2 stops and each time the lights remained on when I restarted the engine. Made it back to LA to drop my buddy off and took a 20 minute break as it was night now and much cooler. As I continued home, I turned the AC off and put the window down to feel the cool breeze. I went about 1-2 miles when I noticed both lights went off and stayed off.

Should I still have the car checked out? Is this common? Or should I not worry as the lights went off on their own and would not show a code?

I would still check it out as you may be able to find the cause of the problem. If you had lights on, they should be stored in the ECM.
