Happy holidays!
I own a 2003 toyota Rav4 2003 2.0vvti gasoline with 5 speed manual tranny, 158.000km that when i want to go from 0km/h in first gear, when i reach like 5km/h and i release the gas pedal the engine braking is super hard and the whole car shakes. Is that normal? I have to say that the car was in a very small front crash before i bought it, may that be the cause?
Thank youu!
- Well of course could be a result of the collision no car should do that.
It is probably normal as first gear in that car is mostly just to get it moving.
But since it was in a front end crash, it is possible there is another issue. However, I'm pretty sure it is just how the car is geared.
Check all your engine mounts. They may have got damaged during the wreck, causing the shaking.
As @mod_man said, I have found Toyota manuals to have pretty aggressive engine braking, in first gear. So that may be normal.
