Engine vibration

Hi Scotti

This is an old thread but here is my experience. I bought a brand new car in December 2020. It's now October 2022. I buy my gas any where that is convenient. I turn off the auto stop/start feature so the car idles when I stop at intersections. The car has had a slight vibration that comes and goes when idling in gear. I was told running mid or high grade gasoline is better for the car so typically I have been buying the middle grade. The owners manual says the car will run on any unleaded fuel and the engine will automatically adjust itself. I was stuck at a station in Glens Falls NY and they were out of Low and MID. I had to buy high test at $5.50 a gallon "ounch". For the next couple of days the vibration became very pronounced to the point my wife noticed it. After a tank or two of Mid grade gas the vibration went back to the low level but still definitely there. Recently regular gas has come down but mid and high grade gas has stayed expensive so I have been buying regular. The vibration went completely away. I did an experiment  and tried a tankful of mid grade and it came back. Went back to regular and it went away. So for now I am running regular and so far it is smooth as silk when idling and I see no degradation in performance. Once again I don't shop around. When the  gas gets low I buy from the nearest station.

The stations around my area are Speedway, Sunoco, Mobile, BP, Exon and Shell and my fuel could be from anyone of them.

Any Explanation?

It looks like I have been spending extra money for nothing.

The car is a 2021 Kia Sorento 2.4L GDI. AWD

This has nothing to do with top tier gasoline, so you shouldn't have posted your question in that topic. You are describing using different OCTANE rated fuels. I have moved your question to a new topic.

Those fuels should work fine. There's something wrong with your engine.
