I just got a 2011 Camaro 2LT V6. 100k miles. The dealership I got it from had to do some work to it after I purchased it under the warranty such as new battery and a new Catalytic converter due to a code with the sensor in the exhaust. However, whoever had the car before me put in k&n cold air intake and custom exhaust. ITS LOUD. I personally put flow-masters on my 2000 camaro back in the day and thought it sounded good. However, I have some issues with the setup. My gas mileage seems to be under par. The readout on the dash never goes above 20 mpg even when cruising with no acceleration in cruise. Also, the sound from the exhaust when cruising on the highway is unbearable. I am going to use this car for work and can't really have loud exhaust when going into quiet neighborhoods also. So long story short, I want to put the air intake and mufflers back to stock. This will quiet things down and should hopefully make the Camaro run smoother. It doesn't seem to be running right. It probably needs a tune up but for now my biggest issue is the mufflers. Chevy Dealer wants $1400 to redo the exhaust back to stock, and I'm just not that rich or desperate to pay those prices. And I really want to go back to stock to see if this fixes a few things. Can I just go to a muffler shop and have them put on universal mufflers and expect to get near factory specs on the original engineering of the intended exhaust system? I have been looking for exact replacements for the mufflers and have come up short. Everything on Ebay is for SS which is V8 for my year Camaro. On the website GMpartsonline.net the part is F Muffler - GM (19419958). It only comes with the mufflers and some pipping. I can't get the mufflers alone. It's cheaper than the dealer but with shipping it might come close. I would really prefer to get used stock mufflers and take them to my shop to get welded in place. What got me thinking was that the description of the above mentioned part says:
Description:
Camaro. 3.6l. 2010-11. 2012-15, without performance exhaust
Does that mean that any muffler from 2010 to 2015 in LT would be compatible? When I look up the same part for a 2015 on the same website it gives a different part number and a slightly different diagram. I'm really struggling to identify a used compatible set of mufflers that will give me stock specs in the exhaust system.
I found someone that wants to ship me mufflers for this car from a camaro forum, but they are for the V8, but from what I can tell they are identical to the v6 version. Would this be compatible?
Sure start by having a muffler shop there would and take all the aftermarket stuff like cold air Intake off
It sounds like you don’t have a very demanding objective, you just want to be rid of all the loud droning. I would go to your local shop and say just that. Tell them your budget, and let them tell you what specific parts would give you the most bang (or least) for the buck.
