F-150 scraping at start

I have a 2006 F-150 5.4 Triton with 154,000 miles on it. I recently lost my reverse gear and had the dealership fix the transmission. Ever since, when I start the truck, I get a scraping noise as the engine is turning over. If I turn the truck off and restart it a few times, the scraping begins to go away with each successive start - sometimes even going away. I’ve read there are often issues one of the belt tensioners. Could this be it?? Thanks for you help!

Where is the noise coming from?  If you had your trans worked on, it could be the bolts connecting the torque converter to the flex plate are scraping.  Pull the converter cover and look for bright spots on the block.

Will do and I’ll get back to you. It sounds like it’s behind and down from the engine... so I tend not to think it’s the tensioner issue... but I’m still new to this. I’ve changed many of the easy things in my cars over the years, but this is my first trip into the serious innards.

Hey doc. Great call. It is 100% coming from the transmission. The work done was a reverse band replacement. I’m not 100% confident removing the converter cover. But I’ll watch some YouTube videos and see if I feel up to the task. I’ve called the dealership and left a message in hopes they will take care of it free of charge. You’ve been a huge help! Is there anything I should know when going back to the dealership? Thank you again!

Yes, don't take NO for an answer and be prepared to go above the dealership in the chain of command and responsibility for the work they did.  Removing the torque converter cover is a snap.  Ray Charles could do it.
