Failed fan clutch 2008 Infiniti QX56 overheat transmission

Here's my question: Can a failed fan clutch cause the transmission on a 2008 Infiniti QX56?

Engine was overheating, diagnosed with bad fan clutch, changed the clutch and an hour later driving on the highway, engine overheated, transmission started slipping and smoking, pulled over immediately. I am afraid of major damage. Any thoughts?

Thanks for all you do for the car community.

If the transmission cooler is integrated with the radiator I could see it causing a problem, both from overheating the trans fluid and possibly developing a leak where coolant gets into the transmission.

It appears the latter is a known problem with those vehicles.

Thank you Chuck. Do you if the 2008 model in fact has the transmission cooler integrated? Repair shop is telling they have nothing to do with each other; however, I keep reading otherwise.

Since I've never dealt with one of those I don't know from personal experience, but as you say online sources say the transmission cooler is integrated with the radiator. (That's the way most vehicles are set up, though heavy-duty jobs may have a separate trans cooler.)
