2006 Ford F-150 5.4L 150,000. Have done all scheduled maintenance, single owner. On a day morning with heavy dew, accelerated swiftly after 2 minutes of driving, and 2 minutes later engine went into Failsafe Mode while driving steady 40 mph. Engine died while pulling off the road. Parked, restarted engine, backfire once, then ran normally. No codes. Took it to Ford dealer and they said no codes were stored in the computer. Last tune up was at 130,000. What could cause this?

Check and see if you have any blown fuses or loose plugs. If you have none of those then it's something serious such as a damaged oil pump, timing chain, crankshaft or camshaft to name a few.
Have the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic and then go from there.
