Ive been looking at the market for a while, and i've been wondering, in your opinion, what would make a cheap but sporty first car? I'd like to stay around 2500 if possible.

It depends what you really want if you Lucknow the market is quite good you could probably get a Honda unless you are looking for smaller cars look over at Peugeot

Try a Scion tC, I think the 2nd gen had a better engine, don't know if you can get one for $2500 in decent shape though. Now you did say "sporty" not "sports" so, don't feel too bad when you realize all the Scions are FWD.

honda civic for a coupe, mazda miata for a convertible.

Get a Corolla or Civic. Although you should consider old models for that price range.
