The main thing to realize is that a 2012 Highlander is 12 going on 13 years old now with likely well over 100K miles. The way it has been treated and maintained over those years and miles is going to be the main factor determining its reliability at this point. Be sure to have a good mechanic give any used vehicle you are considering a thorough examination before purchase.
