Toyota not reliable?

I bought a used 2021 Highlander LE automatic at 62,000 miles and noticed a whining noise. I got it in cash from a dealership with a 3000 mile warranty. I brought it in to my local Toyota dealer at 67,000 miles and asked them about it, they told me I need a new transmission which will cost $8,100. I worry if I get a new transmission will it go bad again after 60-70,000 miles? Do i just need to buy a different car? Or will a transmission drain and refill help?? Thank you! I feel so dissappointed in Toyota

Wasn't this problem noticed during the pre-purchase inspection?

Toyota's quality is down, as is the industry as a whole, particularly since Covid-19. However the general consensus is that they are still the best of a bad lot.

Whining noises can come from a lot of different sources so it would be best to get a 2nd opinion from a good independent mechanic.

Many dealers are notorious for poor diagnosis as well as ripping off customers. (Service writers are commissioned sales persons, and the way dealership technicians are paid discourages thorough diagnosis. Avoid chain shops (Pep Boys, Midas, etc.) as well.
