Dear Scotty,
Please help enlighten me. I have a 2007 Chevy Impala LS with around 180,000 miles on it. About two weeks ago it over heated and I ended up paying around 900 for a new water pump, hoses, and timing belt plus the labor. Now it seems the head gasket is busted and the mechanic quoted me at 3000 for the fix.
Should I take it to someone else? Try to find a better quote and fix it? I know used car prices are bad rn.
Or should I just get a new car? Like a Honda or Toyota? I really can’t spend a lot like max maybe 12,000. Maybe 15, but damn.
What would you do? Thanks for reading this and love your vids. How you and your loved ones are well and healthy.
Best,
Mickey
If you're not able to do the work yourself I'd get rid of it. (I would have gotten rid of it after it overheated.) Don't throw good money away after bad.
Nix
That Impala is way past its useful life - I would start looking for a different vehicle. I agree with Chuck: don’t throw good money after bad. At this point with that car at over 180,000 miles, if it’s not one thing, it will be something else that goes (namely electrical issues).

He is charging you $3k because he really doesn't want the job. If it were mine, I'd go ahead and fix it, but I do my own work and my labor is free. It's a big job, but I think $3k is out of line.
Thanks for all the answers, guys! Used cars prices are so bad right now but I guess I have to buck up.
