Ford 429 Rocker Arm and Fulcrum Seat Wear

Hi Scotty and Carkiller community

Car: 1972 Ford Thunderbird, 429, unknown mileage, I assume it is the original engine.

My question is: Is this kind of scuffing (see pictures in links below) caused by normal wear or is it caused by something else as lack of lubrication, overheating, wrong rocker arm bolt torque etc? Similar wear on all 16 rocker arms.

I removed both heads to replace the valve seals and lapping the valves. The heads looked OK, no sludge or carbon build up, but I found some greasy metallic substance that looked like light grey anti-seize. Valve stems looked good, and the push rod's inner tube were clean.

The engine burned some oil but ran fine, no ticking or knocking sounds.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Thanks!

I would assume the oil wasn't changed frequently enough and it was either really dirty or ran low on oil to get that kind of where

Thanks Scotty!
