Hey Scotty,

I have 2006 Ford van E-250, 5.4 L V8, auto trans 169K miles. Check engine light (code P0306 misfire cylinder #6) came on again today. Had the same issue 3 months ago, and the dealer changed plugs, coils and checked injectors all good. They don't seem to know what to do. Please help

Time to do a compression test. That cylinder may be worn and fouling the plug with oil.

Compression test was performed on all cylinders and checked out fine

well obviously there's a problem that cylinder it could be as bad as the head gasket is starting to leak on that cylinder or it has valve problems or valve spring problems or even a fuel injector problem can cause misfire go to another mechanic and see what they say if you no longer trust that guy

Thanks for the suggestion. Just to add to the story, the dealer did perform a compression test on all cylinders and all checked out fine. I live in Nashville and would be happy to bring the van to you to look at it if you are interested. Thanks!

I have this truck. The coils on these are a problem. This is something you need to fix because IT WILL destroy your catalytic converters.

Call summit racing or Jegs and order a set of coils from a reputable brand. Pay the premium and buy them. The yellow ones are great. The factory coils are the problem and the ones the dealer has are shit as well. Don't buy them.

I bought my coils from summit on ebay and did some research one them. They sold 9400 sets of 8 coils and had only 5 negs on them because the dummys ordered the wrong coils. Buy the sure thing.

Don't mess with the plugs unless you have to. The holes have only a few threads of soft aluminum and its easy to screw them up. Just leave them alone and replace the coils with good hot ones. New insulators springs and coils come as a complete unit. Took me about 2 hours to change them all on my ford van and I am old sore and fat LOL.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will try to change the coils even though the dealer already replaced them 3 months ago. It's a real pain. Plus the gas mileage on this thing is only about 11MPG. Any idea if the "new" Transit is reliable? And is the mileage any better? Thanks!

Transit is reliable and good gas milage.
My e250 gets about 20 0n the highway. I pulled an empty 16 foot flatbed trailer single axel 1000 miles and averaged 20 mpg at 62 to 65 mph. That 4.6 is a real scrooge on gas.
The transit is better. Go rent one for a weekend. Take a trip.
