Ford excursion stalls out

03 ford excursion, 4x2, v10, 212k miles, I had a problem recently where at red lights or when the car comes to a stop, the engine will stall out and i have to put it into nuetral to start the car back up, i have a engine code for idle control valve, should i be worried?

Clarification: Which specific “P” code (or codes) are you getting? List them all.

so i have drive the car a bit, the battery was dead at the time of the original post and may have been giving faulty codes, the stalling out issue stopped for a while but after a couple days it has returned, and the code i am getting is (p0720 output shaft speed censor circuit) and (p0722 output shaft speed censor circuit no signal) i also notice that when driving uphill the car shakes a bit, and it is still turning off when the car is at a stop. I’m also looking for any possible vacuum leaks.

I presume you are getting a P050x code for Idle Air Control System malfunction, most likely a P0505 (but please confirm).  If so, then that can lead to engine stalling, and you will have to address it.  See below for troubleshooting:  don’t just blindly replace the IAC valve without the proper diagnostics:

Those V10's were good motors and could go a long time if maintained right. But they were gas hogs, naturally.

I would definitely check the idle control valve as stated above, along with the mass airflow sensor and PCV valve, because given time things clog up. Scotty has a few videos on the topics and how to clean them up. I love the 6.8's and that truck is certainly worth putting a little money into, as long as it isn't rusting out.

People kill for V10 Excursions, so make sure you sell it privately when the unfortunate day comes.

You're not worried about your engine stalling?

clean our the idle control valve and make sure it works

Yes obviously im concerned/worried about that issue, i know that sometimes because of a bad idle control valve that can be the reason for the stalling, and given it is a ford v10 engine i know they are strong and bulletproof besides the sparkplug issues they can have.

I was having the issue for a bit, but it starts up fine without needing to be put into neutral, going to have my mechanic take a look

oh you mean in general should you be worried about this vehicle?
Well it's a mighty big engine, so you would expect it to go beyond 200k, but I've never worked on one.
Let me summon our Ford truck guys @7-3punchina3-4, @Mod_Man, @daywalker, hmmm... who else here knows Ford trucks?
