Ford F-250 oil pan leak

Hey Scotty, I got a 2003 Ford-F250 super duty 6.0 diesel automatic. I have had a leak from the oil pan, but recently it has gotten bigger, and now it dumps. I called my local mechanic shop, and they said that to replace the oil pan they would have to take out the engine and the transmission to do it, and is gonna cost over $2000. Am I getting rip off or is this realistic?

For this year car im sorry to tell you but it is necessary. The space to take it out is just not there and because of the odd shape of it it cannot be pulled out by just removing the screws.

Remove cab, radiator, etc and bed to gain access to remove engine. Remove engine, oil pan bolts are usually a mess on 6.0. Remove and replace oil pan and gasket. 8-12 hour job with proper lift for cab and bed. Plus parts, filter, and oil. I can easily see that price.

No end to the woes of a 6.0 once it starts failing. To keep the truck, the cheapest way out is replacing it completely with a aftermarket remanufactured engine for about $15,000. Redesigned heads and upgrade fixes to all its common engineering faults.

Personally I'd sell it as is. Forget about a 6.4. If you stick with Ford, the newer 6.7s are good. Occasional DPF sensor or EGR cooler leak.
