Ford Ranger or Nissan Frontier?

Im looking at getting a used mid-sized pickup with an automatic transmission. I would get a Tacoma but since those sell for so much I have looked at other mid-sized pickups. I've heard good things about Ford Rangers and Nissan Frontiers and am wondering if there are any big differences that make one more reliable than the other? Note I will be using them to tow little jon boats that weigh no more than 1000 pounds and just want something with 2wd.

Both are good choices

I have know idea about the fountiers because I’ve never owned one, but the rangers, my dad had a little 3.0l with a standard transmission for 275,000 miles on it before it blew, but he drove it another 80,000 miles before the clutch went out at 355,000. Never had big problems with it. I think the reason it blew was because a bolt let loose in the engine, ( I think) but after that one he picked up another one with 139,000 miles, the head gaskets went out, but we replaced those and they went 50,000 later ( a bad design in the heads that year, if you replace the heads that should fix the problem from what I’ve heard) so we replaced them again and now it’s my first vehicle with 211,439 miles on it.

I've got 272k on a 1999 Ranger 4×4 with that same engine. That 3.0 is a tank for how small it is.

I would save up for the Toyota and pass on the others.
