Hi all,
A friend wants to make a project off-roader base on a 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser MT.
The very first step of his project is to change fj cruiser’s front end to solid front axle and add front locking differential.
We had some researches on solid front axle and portal axle. Due to the costs and difficulties of portal axels(both front and rear), he decided to go with solid front axle.
The goal is making an unique off-road vehicle which has similar chassis to Jeep, based on Toyota quality, and has superior capabilities than many of off-roaders/ overlanders you can buy in market.
If he failed or gave up his project, this FJ will be restored to an original FJ Cruiser.
Any thoughts and suggestions?
Thx
Good luck. There is TONS of work, money, engineering and fabrication involved in SAS, and sometimes it ends up undrivable. I hope it's worth it.
Is he doing leaf springs or struts?
Struts.
I think eventually this fj cruiser will be destroyed.
If you're going to do it, I think you have to forget about going back to factory look.
Well, sacrifice an FJ cruiser
Have you looked on the FJ forum? Someone must have done this already and you can go with a true and tried setup in that case, budget permitting.
Yes we dive in forums and try to dig out the potential issues and more info
