Fuel Induction Service

For at least the last 2 years Honda Service has been recommending "Fuel Induction Service" every 15k miles for $289.99, "Platinum Fuel Air Induction Cleaning Service", in Richardson TX.  This is a "Critical" repair as noted by service advisor.

I have a 2006 Honda Ridgeline with 131K, I have had it since 2008, runs and starts great.  I am up to date on all the major services.  Is this really critical?   If needed in the future can I use fuel additive / treatment?

thank you

No. (Why are you taking a 19-year-old vehicle to a dealer for service?)

Yes.

"Platinum Fuel Air Induction Cleaning Service"

That's all just fancy wording so they can take your money.

"Service advisors" aren't your friends, they're out to make as much money as possible to compensate for their extremely high overhead costs. They will suck you dry, if you let them.

Get a basic scan tool and learn to use it. Select live data and look for your fuel trims. It will say LTFT (Long-term fuel trim) and STFT (short-term fuel trim). It will read as percentage of perfect (minus % is running rich, positive % is running lean). If you're only running a few percentage points rich or lean, the "Platinum Fuel Air Induction Cleaning Service" won't make any difference. Dealers aren't in the business of maintaining cars. They want to sell you new ones.
