GMC small engine 1.5 l turbo long term?

While wife lives her Hondas, I prefer GM vehicles.
I used to “buy” the vehicles, but I have learned my lessons.
I lease them now while covered under warranty.
Not had any major issues, but I just don’t feel like GM is producing 100,000 mile plus vehicles anymore due to push of fuel economy, weight reduction (plastic parts) , the outsourcing to Mexico, Korea , and China.
Had a 2014 gmc terrain (lease) with 2.4 engine (I believe no turbo) which was pretty good. The 2014 didn’t seem to burn the oil like previous models did.
Then traded that on 2018 equinox.
Now with the turbo (which I do not like for reliability) and the stupid auto stop start feature (which is a dumb nuisance as I live in the suburbs not the city - not saving me much but creates more wear and tear on engine)
I have 2022 gmc terrain now with the SDE (small displacement engine)
1.5 liter turbo.
Not the car I was shopping for during the pandemic. I waited six months for another vehicle that never came.
I wanted a rav4, but over priced and wait time was ridiculous.
So, when terrain showed up at dealer lot, I pounced on it as we needed a car cause wife was returning to office after pandemic.
My question is what do to think is long term longevity of these small cheap sde engines with the turbo from GM?
I like the GMs well enough to at least lease, but if I did want to purchase at the end , I don’t like the small 4 cyl turbo - won’t last.
What can you do nowadays to get non electric vehicle that gets good mileage that is not a stinking turbo?
And not CVT?
I shopped the rav4, that has 2.5 4cyl non turbo?  But has its own problems?  Under powered, rough ride ?
What can you get now that is not tiny dinky engine with turbo and cvt that is reliable?
I will not do CVT.
I will not do Hyundai or KIA.

I would not own one outside of warranty.

Toyota still has some offerings with naturally aspirated engine and conventional automatic transmission.  I would go Toyota.  You pay more for them but it’s worth it in the long run.

You’ll never find the perfect car, so for now, just roll with what you got.

With a small turbo, there are things you can do to improve longevity:

  • Drive it easy until it warms up, and again the last few miles before you shut it down
  • Dont tow anything, and avoid carrying extra weight
  • Change the oil frequently (5000 miles or less) and use good full synthetic oil
  • Consider doing an oil analysis every other oil change (or so) to monitor the health of the engine
  • If you can, turn off auto start-stop every drive (opinions differ on this)

You never know how long a well maintained, easy-driven car can last.  My mom got 2 Chevy Cavaliers to over 250,000, so it can be done.
