Hi Scotty ! Please, I'm curious, in you experience how do compare those first generation VW Rabbit (Golf Mk1), to Corollas of the same era, in terms of reliability and built quality. Thnx.

I would ask a question about Golf reliability seperately because everyone would absolutely spam Corolla. To be clear the Corolla is the most reliable by far but the VW Rabbit/Bora were decent.

Yeap can be applied as a separate question, because the Golf had (still has ) the diesel option.The Corolla didnt have any diesel that time i believe.. If we just follow the numbers, Corolla would outnumber any car, but i was specifically curious just for that period of time .

I can still see a Golf I on road

@g-t
Your in Europe here they are almost non existent. I've been to Turkey and the amount of VWs used for sale are 30% more than Toyotas and Hondas combined Golf/Jetta/Passat are everywhere but not here.

Where I live, first three generations of Golf are rarity too.

I see. Well I guess if you can get parts for them they are not horrendous cars they can be decent but in the US meh I would stay away from them.

No doubt in Europe VW rules specially the diesels. But i was curious only for Golf Mk1 and the Corollas of that time, not today ones. Scotty used to work on theme he knows.

It doesn't compare, they are polar opposites. The Corolla is one of the most reliable cars and the Golf is an endless money pit.

I second that; VW Golf is a money pit. I’m now just waiting for mine to die, the mechanics that have seen my car said it’s not worth fixing the head gasket, the cost to fix is more than market value of my car. :/ I’m in Australia.
