hey Uncle scotty, I wanna buy a 1976 Cutlass supreme. anything I shouold look for in these cars. Ia m excited to pick this up and make it a nice sume toy,
Well back in the day GM still made decent vehicles. Just realized you're buying a car that's like 46 years old. It probably needs some work now you can still get parts on them but I would road test at first though because if the transmission is all slipping and it doesn't ride right you wouldn't want to pay too much money for it cuz you're going to have to put a lot of money fixing it.
I bought the car, it needs some rust repair, I am putting in new quarter panels and sanding down the surface rust. transmission is good and ddoesn't slip. It hass 45670 Original miles. I am really excited
You should be excited, I always liked those cars along with the Buicks and Pontiacs from that era.
Make sure the front suspension components are tight, you may want to change out the bushings front to rear. If not done already, there can't be much of them left.
Definitely take care of any additional rust spots in addition to the ones you've already mentioned.
The rest is not a suggestion, only hypothetical dreaming.....
I can't help it, however I'm thinking engine transplant. A rebuilt Buick/Olds/Pontiac (take your pick) 455 with a high lift camshaft and aluminum intake manifold with a Holley 650cfm carb. Some mild head work along with 9 to 1 compression pistons. Long tube headers bolted to a 2 1/2 inch dual exhaust with a set of Flowmaster 50 series mufflers.
A rebuilt 400 turbo transmission with a shift kit, along with a custom aluminum driveshaft spinning through a rebuilt 10 bolt rear axle with 3.73 gearing.
im not about speed just enjoying the cruise.
I know. But I when I tried one it could barely get up a hill.
Anyway, I wouldn't get too deep into it.
Mine gets up the hill no problem, you must have had a v6 one?
